Attractions around the hotel

As Barclay hotel is in the very heart of Tartu, there are many attractions just short walking distance away. In fact, the hotel itself is an attraction too. The house was built in 1912 by Kessler and Pohlman and rebuilt into a hotel in 1995. From 1944 to 1992 it was the Headquarters of the Red Army. At the main entrance you can see a plate dedicated to first Chechen President, who was working in the house during the late Soviet period. In the lobby there are more honours plates of high military officers, who were working in the building in the past.

Just in few minutes from the hotel one can see all the main sights, including Tartu University, the Town Hall, St John's Cruch, the "Vanemuine" theatre, as well as banks and shopping centres.
